Welcome to my blog! I’m Nagaeyari, an amateur historian with an interest in early Japanese history. I’m especially interested in kofun symbolism, architecture, and evolution. State formation and foreign relations are fascinating as well. I’m currently an undergraduate student majoring in Japanese (the closest I could get to a “kofun major” at my university).
I hope to use this blog as a way to write down interesting findings and share them with all of you. I’ll also try to keep on top of the latest book releases in this field and provide purchase and review links.
I’m also a guest-blogger at the Shogun-Ki, the blog of the Samurai Archives Japanese History Page. I will write occasionally over there about samurai history, a topic far removed from the original purpose of this site. I’m also interested in getting some guests over here to write occasionally.
If you’re interested in becoming a part of the Ancient Japan blogging crew, send me a message and we’ll talk.

Hello Nagaeyari. Great blog on Japanese history. You seem very thorough. I see you have the Samurai Archives notated. He’s a good friend of mine. Anyhow, keep it up, and best wishes on the studies! Regards, Andrew from moments of truth

Hi! I was looking for reviews on Kidder’s 2007 book on Yamatai when I found your blog. I’ve only had the time to read that and your latest post, but I am really looking forward to read your other articles. I too am an “enthusiastic amateur” when it comes to Ancient History. I’ve been focusing my research and writing on Jomon but am now interested in learning more about subsequent periods: now I’ll know where to start thanks to your books recommendations!
Please keep up the great work!
